Xero Feature Deep-Dive
Xero Feature Deep-Dive > New Features in Xero for 2026
Published: 18 May 2026
Xero analytics, AI reconciliation, and a new MTD-compliant plan all landed in 2026. But the change most likely to have already cost your practice time is the one with the smallest price tag: a £ 7-per-month sole trader plan with a migration deadline that passed on 6 April.

This guide covers the four changes that matter most to your client base.
The Platform Shift: Xero OS and What It Changes
Xero OS
Announced in April 2026, Xero now describes itself as an AI-native operating system rather than accounting software. Tasks that previously required separate manual steps, like detecting an incoming bill, scheduling a payment, and reconciling the transaction, now link together automatically.
JAX (Ask Xero) sits at the centre of this, handling reconciliation, bill processing, and plain-English financial queries.
Accountable Intelligence in Practice
JAX auto-reconciles bank transactions in real time using historical patterns, but you approve every match rather than just receiving outputs. Before a reconciliation is confirmed, Xero shows you what it matched and why. The same logic applies to bill workflows: an incoming bill is detected, a payment is scheduled, and the transaction is auto-reconciled, with your approval retained throughout.
One practical implication: the cleaner and more consistently categorised your historical transaction data, the more reliably JAX performs.
Syft Analytics Is Now Built Into Eligible Plans
Syft Analytics
Syft Analytics is now embedded in eligible Xero business plans at no extra charge. Three features stand out for your practice: a business health score, a real-time metric built from income, expenses, and cash position. Cash flow forecasting is generated automatically from historical transaction patterns, and multi-entity consolidation enables the review and comparison of data across multiple client files.
If your team currently builds cash flow projections in Excel or opens client files one by one to compare performance, Syft replaces both workflows within Xero’s analytics layer.
Which Plans Include It
In the UK, Syft analytics is included in the Xero Comprehensive plan and above. Xero partners also receive access at no additional cost for qualifying business plan subscriptions. Before recommending Syft to a client, check their current subscription tier. Clients on Xero Ignite or earlier versions do not have access without upgrading.
The New Xero Homepage and Partner Hub
The Redesigned Homepage
The new Xero homepage replaced the static dashboard with a customisable layout that surfaces key information the moment you open a client file. A net profit/loss widget shows an income-versus-expenses breakdown for any chosen date range without opening a separate report. A bank accounts widget gives real-time balances and reconciliation status for every connected account in a single view.
For clients you review regularly, this eliminates several clicks per visit. You see whether the month is on track before you navigate anywhere inside the file.
Partner Hub For Practice-Level Oversight
Partner Hub provides your practice with a single screen that displays client task lists, pending invoices, overdue items, and unreconciled transactions across all client accounts. The morning portfolio review becomes one screen rather than a file-by-file process.
Partner Hub requires Xero Practice Manager. If your practice is not using it yet, Partner Hub will not appear in your interface regardless of your subscription tier.
Xero Simple and the April 2026 MTD for Income Tax Deadline
What Xero Simple includes
Xero Simple costs £7 + VAT per month and is the new MTD-compliant plan for UK sole traders and landlords, replacing Cashbook for new client onboarding. It includes bank feeds, Hubdoc receipt capture, quarterly HMRC MTD submissions, and final declarations.
The Invoice Cap And Who It Affects
Xero Simple caps invoices and quotes at 10 per month. A sole trader with a handful of regular customers can hit that limit quickly, particularly if they send a quote before each job. Any client that invoices or quotes more than 10 times a month needs Xero Ignite at £16 + VAT per month.
| Plan | Monthly Price (+ VAT) | Invoice / Quote Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Xero Simple | £7 | 10 per month |
| Xero Ignite | £16 | Unlimited |
What to Do Now
Four actions worth completing this week:
- Check plan eligibility for Syft Analytics. Confirm which clients are on Xero Comprehensive or above before introducing the feature. Clients on lower-tier plans need to be upgraded first.
- Set up Partner Hub if you use Xero Practice Manager. The single-screen portfolio view is ready once Practice Manager is active. Make it your default starting point for morning reviews.
- Audit your client list against MTD income thresholds. Any client with a qualifying income above £50,000 who is not yet on a compliant plan is past the April 2026 deadline. Xero Simple is the lowest-cost route for clients with low invoice volumes.
- Check monthly invoice volumes before assigning Xero Simple. Clients sending more than 10 invoices or quotes per month need Xero Ignite at £16 + VAT.
Final Thoughts
Accounting firms are moving toward a workflow-first environment in which reconciliation, reporting, forecasting, and compliance are expected to occur faster. But the real pressure point is not the AI layer. It is whether your client’s setup, plan structure, and financial data are organised well enough to support it.
The firms that prepare early will spend less time fixing errors later, especially as automation becomes more deeply tied to compliance and reporting accuracy.
